Virtual Yoga for Trauma Recovery + Group Therapy by Nicole

Wounds 2 Wings is partnering with Queen Street Yoga to offer unique virtual courses during this unusual time.

Virtual Yoga for Trauma Recovery

 Wednesdays at 6:00pm

April 22, May 13, June 3

This unique class is for anyone who is on a path to recovering from physical or emotional trauma. The class aims to give participants tools to understand how trauma effects the body and to let go of trauma stored in the body through movement. Trauma may seem like a loaded word, but it is something that affects many of us through major losses, accidents, violence, or other major life stresses.

The practices will consist of gentle movements, simple postures, and breath awareness. These elements of traditional hatha yoga are modified to build a trauma survivor's sense of empowerment and cultivate a more positive relationship to one's body.

Everything in the class is optional and beginner-friendly.

The aim of our Virtual Course is  to empower you to learn new methods of self-care during this unusual time and provide opportunities for community connection. We have designed these courses to prioritize both interaction and building new habits. The online format includes both interactive live-stream classes (where you can ask questions and hear from fellow students), as well as a variety of practice videos to do at your own pace and incorporate into your life. The best part? You will have access to all the practice videos (including recordings of the live-stream classes) for one year after your course ends, so you can continue to practice at home.

A computer, tablet, or smartphone and internet connection is required to participate, and a smartphone or webcam and microphone are recommended in order to interact with the teacher during live-streams. The online platform is very user-friendly, and we will provide you with instructions for getting started.

Virtual 7-Week Course Overview:

Week 1:

Live-streamed 75-minute class. Begins with a short chat with the teacher, includes a 50- to 60-minute guided class, and ends with 10 to 15 minutes of time for questions, feedback, and human connection with your instructor and classmates. The instruction portion of live-streams will be recorded and available afterwards, if you are unable to make the class time.

Weeks 2 & 3:
We will release two to three high-quality, pre-recorded videos, each with a different focus. You can practice these once or several times during these two weeks.

Week 4:
Live-streamed 75-minute class. Includes 45-minute guided practice building on some of the previous weeks’ videos, followed by 30 minutes of time for guided interaction. You can turn on your camera if you like and share your experience of the practice and hold space for one another.

Weeks 5 & 6:
We will release two to three high-quality, pre-recorded videos, each with a different focus. You can practice these once or several times during these two weeks.

Week 7:
Live-streamed 75-minute class. Includes 45-minute guided practice integrating your learning, followed by 30 minutes of time for guided interaction.

** Based on the evidence-based methodology of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga.  While taught by a Registered Psychotherapist, the course itself is not Group Therapy. As an adjunctive therapy, the course is not intended as a replacement for working with a qualified therapist. However, during this time of increased trauma and stress due to COVID-19, we are adding a Virtual Group Therapy option for those who wish to have that added support. See below for more details about group therapy. **

Virtual Yoga for Trauma Recovery + Group Therapy

Wednesdays 6:00-7:30pm
April 29, May 6, May 20, May 27

For those wanting to go deeper in their healing process and receive more support, this option gives you the Virtual Yoga for Trauma course, plus four weeks of Virtual Group Therapy facilitated by Nicole. The four sessions of Group Therapy will take place on weeks 2, 3, 5, and 6 of the course. These are the weeks when you have Pre-Recorded content instead of live-streamed classes.

Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves a therapist working with several or more people at the same time. Group therapy helps people work through problems by interacting with a therapist and a group of individuals with similar struggles. In a safe, confidential setting, each group member can share personal experiences, feelings and issues and receive feedback and support from the rest of the group.

We may all be experiencing some form of helplessness and fear, such as denial and shock, during this very unique and very unusual time in the world. When traumatic events happen (such as COVID-19), it may bring up other symptoms and patterns of behaviour associated with past traumas. This group is appropriate for those who have experienced grief and loss, trauma, addictions, symptoms of isolation, feelings of shame, loneliness, or anyone that feels they would benefit from group therapy while attending Virtual Yoga for Trauma Recovery.

Maximum 12 participants in Group Therapy

Prices listed below include the Course and 4 sessions of Group Therapy. You can receive a Psychotherapy receipt for the entire price (Course+Group Therapy) for insurance purposes.

Community Supporter Rate: $115 + $320 = $435
Standard Rate: $85 + $280 = $365
Low-Income Rate $45 + $160 = $205
